Research funding from the Gates Foundation. We are a member of NVIDIA Inception, and our models build on Google’s open Gemma family. We also do research in Cohere Labs’ open-science community, where our Afri-Aya dataset won the Expedition Aya Gold Award.

Research connections
We train models on Italy’s Leonardo supercomputer at CINECA. Italy’s MIMIT named us the African anchor of the Italy–India–Kenya trilateral, and our Ugandan benchmark, UCCB, is in the UK AI Security Institute’s Inspect Evals.
India
Research collaboration
We adapt India’s VoicERA voice stack for African languages with EkStep Foundation and COSS. We spoke at the India AI Impact Summit, where 100 AI Diffusion Pathways launched with Crane as a founding partner, and two of our use cases are on MeitY’s Global AI Impact Commons.
